People just Like to Complain

I used to take complainers seriously and try to make them feel better. Now I just listen and enjoy the story. Instead of thinking that they are looking at the situation all wrong. I just let their words go in my ear, let them dance there for a few minutes then release them and never worry about them again.

Sam came up to my desk yesterday and announced, “I hate people. All of them.”

I know that he doesn’t, but I feel bad that he’s talking like that because I want him to enjoy his job. I laughed.

“You got a crazy guy out there?” I asked.

“Lord, please don’t judge me if I just snap.” Sam looked up to the ceiling. “This guy brought in this list of used cars…”

Sam went on from there and complained for the next ten minutes. I didn’t say a word just let him vent. I think complaining is just people’s way of telling you that they see details in life that most people don’t and they need to be validated for their intelligence.
