Change Your Expression, Change Your Mood
I put on my pants,
tuck in my shirt
then look at myself
in the bathroom mirror
my face is set to a scowl.
My thoughts were off to worrying
about work,
making the tension
in my neck
force my face into a scowl.
I dropped my hands to my side,
took a deep breath in
then let it all out
and just watched my face slowly relax.
The scowl disappeared
and I felt my tension fade away.
I wasn’t in a bad mood,
just practicing the bad habit
of letting my thoughts
dictate how I feel.
I practice relaxing each day
and some days are easier than others.
It’s just tough to believe
that I keep falling back
into the same old
mental patterns
of letting
my thoughts dictate my
feelings.
I need to constantly remind myself
to relax with my thoughts.
Don’t let my thoughts make me scowl.
Just roll with the thoughts,
understanding that I decide how I want to feel.
