A Genius or Dummy?

I had the audacity to think of myself as a genius when I was young. Don’t get me wrong, I do believe I’m an intelligent person, but I’m definitely no genius – Nikki can attest to the fact. On the other end of the spectrum, I’ve also thought of myself as the dumbest person alive. This isn’t correct as you can see from this blog entry. I am able to put words together to make an intelligent point.

Life makes me see myself from both ends of the intelligence spectrum. When I’m feeling like a genius or a dummy, the thoughts feel as real as if they were logged into the Google database forever for all to see.

I know that this isn’t true; even when I feel like the dumbest person on Earth, I know I will eventually swing back to feeling good again by simply understanding how my life works. Life is about the ebb and flow, and a wise person understands this.

“Those who are unawakened grasp their thoughts and feelings, their body, their perceptions and consciousness, and take them as solid, separate from the rest. Those who are awakened have the same thoughts and feelings, perceptions, body, and consciousness, but they are not grasped, not held, not taken as oneself”
- The Buddha

When we understand that nothing is permanent, no matter how much it feels like it is, we understand what being wise truly means.
